What’s in a Name.
We began today’s session by exploring the meaning of names, focusing on their particular names.
We talked about choosing names and how people make these choices, which developed into an interesting and lively discussion.
When Mary and Joseph found out that they were going to have a baby, they didn’t need to choose a name at all, because God sent an angel who told them the name to give to their baby.
“You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sin.”
You see the name Jesus means “the Lord saves”
Of course, Jesus is known by lot of other titles - Prince of Peace. Light of the world, King of kings – A bit like when people use personal affectionate names instead of using our actual names.
The group were then given the opportunity to suggest other titles Jesus is known by - Lord of lords, Servant King.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending Jesus into the world to save us from our sins. Help us to keep him at the centre of our lives. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
The session ended with the decoration of a door hanger with their name and the words “Jesus saves”, followed by word puzzles.
