Sunday Club 29th April 2018

Jesus Turns Water into Wine

Today we introduced Jacob to Sunday Club.

The last time we met we talked about Jesus feeding the five thousand and what an amazing event it was. Today we focussed on Jesus' first miracle which he carried out when he physically lived among us. The children present knew that this miracle was when Jesus turned water into wine.

Instead of either a leader or child reading the story the children and leaders read different roles to explain the event (taken from Scripture Union):Narrator (Christine), Mary (Sabrina), Jesus (Michael), The Man (Audrey)

Narrator:  Mary the mother of Jesus was at a wedding feast in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited and were there, When the wine was all gone, Mary said to Jesus....

Mary: They don't have any more wine

Narrator:  Jesus replied

Jesus:  Mother, my time hasn't yet come. You must not tell me what to do

Narrator:  Mary then said to the servants...

Mary:  Do whatever Jesus tells you to do

Narrator:  At the feast there were six stone water jars that were used by thr people washing themselves in the way that their religion said they must. Each jar held about twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus told the servant to fill them to the top with water. Then after the jars had been filled, he said...

Jesus:  Now take some water and give it to the man in charge of the feast.

Narrator:  The servants did as Jesus told them, the man in charge drank some of the water that had now turned to wine. He did not know where the wine had come from, but the servants did. He called the bridegroom over.

The Man:  The best wine is always served first. Then after the guests have had plenty, the other wine is served. But you have kept the best for last!

Narrator:  This was Jesus' first miracle, and he did it in the village of Cana in Galilee. There Jesus showed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him. After this, he went with his mother, his brothers and his disciples to the town of Capernaum, where they stayed for a few days.

After the story the children assembled, coloured and decorated a water jar which when turned would show water to wine. ( see picture below of the jars made by Sabrina, Michael and Jacob)

Our closing prayer before leaving the vestry was:

Dear Lord

Thank you that you promise us

that when two or more come together in Your name

You are with us.

Thank you Lord that you have been with us throughout this lesson

And that you are with us right now.

Inspuire us as we leave this place

To love and serve You always.

In the name of Jesus, Amen

On returning to the childrens corner the children completed quiz sheets and a colouring page of the miracle..
