Sunday Club 17th November 2019

Sunday club session 17.11.19.  The Woman and the Judge. Adapted from Sermons 4 kids, Never Give Up

At the beginning of the session the youngsters were each given a sticker with the letters NUG on and asked if they could guess what the letters N U G stood for.

After a few incorrect tries, I said that I wouldn’t tell them yet because I wanted them to listen to a story that Jesus told and after we’ve talked about it, maybe someone would know what the letters stand for.

Story. (Read by Tyler)

One day a woman went to a judge and said, “There is a man who is not being fair to me. Protect me and give me my rights”.

At first the judge refused to do anything, but the woman kept on asking.

Finally, he said, “This woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!”

When Jesus finished the story, he said, “Learn a lesson from the judge. Even he gave a fair decision in the end, so don’t you think that God will step in and help his children when they keep on crying out for help? Won’t he stick up for them? I’m sure he will”.

A short discussion followed about different situations they had found themselves in when things were so hard they just wanted to give up?

What Jesus wants us to learn from this story is that God loves us to talk to him and he always wants to do nice things for us. He wants what is best for us and he has the wisdom to know what is best for us. But he likes to hear us ask, not just once, but again and again. He wants to be sure that what we are asking for we really do want and he doesn’t want us to ask just once and then give up!

Now do you know what the letters on your sticker means? Everyone guessed, NEVER GIVE UP. So, when you wear your sticker today I hope it will remind you to ask your Heavenly Father to help you when you have a problem that makes you want to give up or a problem you find difficult to deal with.

Everyone then had fun playing the Never Give Up board game.

Before our prayer session we talked about the 5 Ws of prayer The Who, What, When, Where and Why of prayer, and ended with the prayer below.

Prayer      Father we know that you hear us when we pray and you always answer in the way that’s best for us. Help us to trust in you and never give up. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
