Sunday Club 16th September. A plan for Success, based on God’s instructions to Noah.
Today we welcomed 2 more youngsters into Sunday Club – Cobey and Harley.
We began the session talking to the group about any models they had made and in particular any model kits? – cars planes, boats. Some kits have lots of parts and can be difficult to build. Some though are a little easier - like basic Leggo kits, but there’s one thing every model kit must have ---Instructions.
Today’s story was about some very important instructions that God gave to a man a long time ago to enable him to build a very special boat. Who do you think the man was? - Noah
Why did God want Noah to build this boat (Ark)? Well, things had become so bad at the time when Noah lived that God decided he had to take drastic measures. People had become mean and evil and this broke God’s heart. He was sorry he had made them, so he decided to send a great flood. But, God saw that Noah was different. Noah was a good man. God wanted to spare Noah and his family from harm so he told Noah about his plan. God said he was going to send a great flood to destroy the earth and he gave Noah instructions on how to build an ark to keep himself and his family safe.
These were the instructions.
Build the Ark of good timber; make rooms in it and cover it with tar inside and out. Make it 133 metres long, 22metres wide and 13 metres high. Make a roof for the boat and leave a space of 44cms. between the roof and the sides. Build it with three decks and put a door on the side.
We talked about the size of the Ark, looked at a possible design and discussed how they thought Noah would have felt about the task God had given him. Would he be able to do it?
Well, Noah trusted God and he believed that God would guide him and help him complete the task - and it was! After lots of hard work Noah finally finished the ark.
Then God told Noah to fill the ark with animals – two of every kind, and Noah obeyed.
Noah and his family went into the ark, closed the doors and the rain began to fall…………..
The rest of the story was then continued from The Beginner’s Bible, p30 with those who wished reading in turn to the group.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help us to remember that when we put our trust in you, anything is possible, even when the task seems too big for us. Amen
A lively craft activity followed, creating their own Arks, from given instructions, and colouring a variety of animals to put in and around the Ark.
