FEEDING THE 5000
Today we looked at another of Jesus' miracles. There are two similar stories in the bible; one about Jesus feeding 4000 people and the one today which is more frequently read which is the feeding of 500o people, who had gone to listen to Jesus speak.
The following story was then read from the Lion Childrens Bible:
It was another busy day, with no time to eat. A crowd of people had been listening to Jesus. Now the sun was going down, and everyone was hungry. 'Send the people away to buy food', Jesus' friends said.
'No, Jesus answered'. 'We must give them something to eat. How much bread have you got'?
Andrew, Peters brother, said: 'There is a boy here with five barley loaves and two small fish. But it wont go far'.
'Tell everyone to sit on the grass', Jesus said. (There was a crowd of about 5000)
Then Jesus took the boys bread and fish and thanked God for them. His friends took the food round - and to their great surprise everyone had enough to eat. The leftovers filled twelve baskets.
Next day, Jesus spoke of another kind of bread. 'I am the bread of life,' He said. 'Come to me and I will give you all that you need for the new life I have come to bring'.
Our activities today included weaving a basket (Audrey & John had made the frame) and making the bread and fish for this. Also making a flexible large fish (courtesy of pinterest) and completed a crossword.. These are shown in the pictures below and were made by Alfie and Michael.
Closing Prayer:
Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you God for everything.
Amen
