Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

The information for our teaching today was taken from Sermon for Kids from Johns Gospel and was about a man who had been blind since birth and Jesus performed another miracle and healed him. How amazing is that?

Christine asked the children "if you were born blind would you mind which day of the week you were healed? As expected both Alfie And Michael said it wouldn't matter,   In the reading it said that some people who witnessed the miracle were unhappy and  angry with Jesus because he healed the man on the Sabbath.

Michael read the following story:

Jesus was walking with his disciples when they saw a man who had been blind since birth. The disciples thought that the man was blind  because he or his parents had sinned, but Jesus told them, " it's not because of his sins or his parents sins". This happened so that the power of God could be seen in his life. Then Jesus knelt down, spit on the ground, and stirred up some mud. He took the mud and put it on the blind mans eyes. He told him, "Now go and wash yourself in the pool of Siloam." The man went and washed the mud from his eyes and when he came back he could see.

Now you would think that everyone would think it was wonderful  that the man could see, but the Pharisees didn't. It was because Jesus healed the blind man on the Sabbath - even if it was to help someone in need. They were more concerned with keeping their religious laws than they were with helping people.

It's hard to believe that in doing something right, people can get mad and upset with you, but it happens throughout our lives. We are not always rewarded for doing the right thing. Does that mean we shouldn't do it? Both children agreed it does not.

We talked about the impact on life from being blind but how so many things are in place to help people today, including Braille and Guide Dogs.

Our activities  included one child in the pair being blindfolded and the other child giving instructions on how to draw a  simple picture. Also while being blindfolded the children took objects from a bag and tried to identify them.

Our closing prayer on leaving the vestry was: Jesus help us to know what is right. Help me to have courag to do the right thing, even if it's not the popular thing to do, if it is your will. Amen
